Description

.25 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run. Get into better shape as cross training for tennis and to build up one day to an iron man. I am going to swim, bike, and run harder, faster, and longer.

Well, my race time for the first triathlon was 1:07.23...my race time for the second...1:03.45. An improvement of 3 1/2 minutes. Not bad. I came in 137th overall out of 575 putting me in the top 25% which is nice to think about. Breaking it down I swam 30 seconds faster @ 6:37, biked about two minutes faster @ 30:32, and ran a little over two minutes faster @ 22:55. My first transition from swimming to bike really slowed me down; my shoes were covered in ants when I ran up so that slowed me down an extra minute and a half compared to the previous. Oh, the guy who came in 136th beat me in a 150 yard sprint to the finish by .8 seconds...great.

They give out free accelerade at the triathlon!!! that stuff is amazing.

Alex, Be sure to drink some chocolate milk within 30 minutes after your workout. It works just as well as the sports drink Endurox to speed recovery time. If you can get some Accelerade for drinking during your work outs, that will help too. You can get Accelerade at Albertson's, Circle K, even Target sometimes has it. Or just cut the Endurox in half with water and add a pinch of salt. You can get more info on the research at Accelerade.com.

Swam today...my arms are very tired from my unabiility to determine when enough is enough in the past few days' workouts. Although I did not swim far, I can tell I am going to be cutting it close with recovering before 7:45 Sunday AM. Other than that everything else is gravy.

The sprint triathlon I am running Sunday is on Key Biscayne, right next to downtown Miami. The swim is in the Atlantic and the bike and run are throughout the island.
http://www.trilogytri.com/index.htm is the site of the race if you want to check it out. An ironman is not anywhere in my near future(I can't run or bike nearly far enough), but some day, hopefully.

The 9th was just fatigue from overworking the start of the new training. In the keys I don't really get much swim training in but I do log some hours in the water for sure. I feel about as comfortable in the water as I do out now which I think is pretty cool. After swimming through a school of 2-4 ft baracuda on the bayside of Key biscayne while I was training for the last one I almost have no fear left, ha, but certainly plenty of adrenaline(sp.?).

What happened to your tri-mentality on the 9th? Was that before or after you rode 11 miles? If you can get out the door and ride even though the spirits are low, wow! Then that's a lot of self-discipline. Or maybe the good habit is established and a good addiction is going? Do you do some swimming while in the Keys? Or stay on the boat? ;-)

Late afternoon when it gets cooler. Usually around 6 or 7. If I ride I go a little earlier in the day just because of where I ride is on the other side of town. Swimming I can go late, the pool closes at 9:30, and postpone my skin cancer a few years.

The biking was stationary for 25 minutes to get warmed up for weights so I dont think that really counts but I added it anyway, ha. The pool was closed tuesday for monthly cleaning, hopefully I will have better luck and it will be full today, as well as no lightning.

It has now been an extremely relaxing week since my first race and I have about 20 days of hard work to get back to. I am hoping to log a few more miles running in the next few weeks than I did in my previous training so we will see how far I can go. I am excited to get moving again!
