There is also a lot of benefit to self massage, and learning a bit about where knee soreness originates. The knee is a meeting point for several tendons and ligaments, and strengthening and stretching the muscles in play will work wonders. A foam roller is great for massaging the thighs and hips, and the Footballer from Trigger Point Therapy is my favorite for massaging the calves. Just as important as running smart is recovering smart.

Lucy: What interested you in College? What did you Major in? Can you get a counselor to assist with your caree path?
I know there are interest surveys that correlate your responses with specific career paths. I am a recently retired Math teacher, with a similar problem. I don't know what I want to do now that I don't HAVE TO work anymore. The Po Bronson book is a wonderful collection of real people
describing how they made decisions about career choices. Don't worry, with the College degree, you have a plethora of choices. Good luck.

My advice for achy knees: try running on soft soil, earth, grass etc.
Shin splints are a result of overburdening. Don't overdo it and build up your training slowly. Try running a bit longer every week.
